A fire in southern California that grew 2 miles within hours is being fought by over 350 firefighters. A plume of smoke can be seen traveling towards the Mojave Desert. The fire is in San Bernardino near Silverlake, a mere 55 miles from Los Angeles. These high winds are causing the fire to grow quickly, dozens of homes have already been evacuated. The fire began Sunday and has caused two state highways to be closed temporarily.
I was in LA during this fire, participating in a film college workshop. It was quite startling to see these purple clouds throughout the sky while I and my roommates were busy getting ready to go to a play that afternoon. Our house mother suddenly texted us all and told us the play was canceled and we weren't allowed to leave our rooms for the rest of the night. We all realized it must have had to do with the air quality due to this fire. We knew we were in no danger but we felt like prisoners in our dorm room being surrounded by this black ghostly presence. It's very sad to know how badly this smoke polluted the air- we couldn't even leave our rooms.
